Joseph E. Tierney, III
Shareholder, Attorney at Meissner Tierney Fisher & Nichols S.C.
About
Joseph E. Tierney, III has acted as lead counsel in the purchase and sale of many businesses, and he advises on choosing and structuring the entity behind a deal. He has represented manufacturers, software developers, gas line builders, cold storage operators, investment managers, and import-export businesses over many years. Because tax consequences shape business decisions, his deal advice weighs the tax result alongside the goals of the owners. For more than fifty years his work has focused on corporate and tax law for companies, the families that own them, and individual clients, along with estate and charitable planning for very large estates. He also counsels companies in their day-to-day operation on personnel, compensation, and complex financial negotiations. He has taken part in negotiations with the Environmental Protection Agency and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources over the cleanup of a contaminated site. He earned his J.D. at Marquette University Law School and an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University. He serves on the firm's Board of Directors and works with a company at every stage of its growth, from its structure to its eventual purchase or sale.
